Active infra red devices work in the same manner as a normal active device except that they make use of light that the human eye is not able to deal with and create a visible image out of it. This type of light is given off by most living things and these binoculars give you the chance to see them when there is no normal light at all.

Image Intensifiers are at the high-end and use all available light sources, from the visible spectrum and the infra red, to deliver a good quality image. This type of technology is usually only used by the military.
